WorldDAB joins Broadcast 2040+ campaign
23.05.2023 - - Arqiva WorldDAB Member - United KingdomWorldDAB, the global industry forum for DAB+ digital radio, has lent its voice to Broadcast 2040+, a campaign to pressure the United Kingdom government to safeguard digital terrestrial broadcast services until at least 2040. The government’s current policy only guarantees these services, and the important public service broadcasting and other content they carry, until the early 2030s.
WorldDAB President Patrick Hannon says, “WorldDAB is backing the campaign because broadcast digital radio services are critical to securing radio’s future as a trusted and reliable source of news, entertainment and companionship for listeners in the U.K. and worldwide. This is particularly vital in the car, where WorldDAB research found 90% of car buyers say that broadcast radio should be standard in every vehicle.”

DAB+: commercial mux Flanders1 gets 'broadcasting model' in 2024
19.05.2023 - BelgiumThe licence of commercial mux Flanders1, currently operated by Norkring, will not be automatically renewed in June 2024. Flemish Media Minister Benjamin Dalle wants to move away from the existing operator model and opt for a 'broadcasting model'. "In the network operator model, licences are granted to a network operator, which then decides which radio broadcasters will be distributed. In the broadcaster model, qualitative content conditions can be imposed, among other things, as is the case with FM. We are now examining the various options. I will clarify this as soon as possible," Dalle said in a written response.
