Estonia's TTJA launches call for digital radio frequency licences
16.01.2025 - Estonia Estonia
The Tarbijakaitse ja Tehnilise Järelevalve Amet (TTJA) [Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority] has launched a public call for tenders for frequency licences for digital radio services. "When we developed the principles for testing digital radio in November 2022, it was driven by the growing market interest in testing DAB+ technology. A year later, our aim was to create the technical conditions for digital radio to be developed so that market players could test the new technology, and over the past few years this has been actively pursued, with a number of non-FM radio stations seizing the opportunity. Now we have reached the stage where the next step is to issue frequency licences for the provision of a nationwide digital broadcasting network service," said Erko Kulu, Head of the Frequency Management Department of the TTJA.

DAB+ makes it possible
16.01.2025 - Switzerland Switzerland
News, stock exchange, sport, culture, regional reports - the programme summarises all this and more. Some of it is produced by the programme's own editorial team, but much of it also comes from other SRG stations. The voices on SRF 4 News are exceptionally professional and likeable. Factual, cleverly formulated, perfectly spoken. Many people will now discover how good this station is on DAB+. When people talk about the SRG's performance mandate, this station is proof that it is being realised around the clock. Despite all the discussions about DAB+ - the station was never heard on FM or medium wave - you can see that many stations can now be heard on retrofitted or new radio sets that offer clear added value.

Central FM applies for power and coverage increase for its small-scale DAB digital radio multiplex
14.01.2025 - United Kingdom United Kingdom
Central FM wants to increase the range of its small-scale DAB multiplex to add an extra 50,000 potential listeners to its coverage area. The licensee is proposing a power increase from 260W to 490W for the existing transmitter at Earl’s Hill and from 50W to 140W for the existing transmitter located at Central FM’s studio. Ofcom is consulting on the request to vary the licensed area to improve the commercial viability of the service. None of the listeners who are currently served by the multiplex would lose coverage under the revised plan and previously unserved areas, including parts of the city of Dunfermline, would be covered. Ofcom says it is minded to approve the application and is seeking views from interested or affected parties, which must be submitted by 3 February 2025.
