ETSI (the European Standards Organisation developing World Class Standards in Europe for global use) has this week published the latest revision to Technical Standard 101 756 DAB, listing the main character set used for station names and text accompanying radio programmes. The revision has been made to ensure that the spread of DAB into Eastern European countries is not hampered by poor rendering of text on radios.

In an effort to push Austria's broadcast radio to convert to DAB , Wolfgang Struber, Vice chairman of Digital Radio Austria is making the case that the format goes beyond its obvious implications. “Radio is the last broadcasting format in Austria to convert to digital, and Digital Radio Austria wants to follow the trend set by some other European countries to make the switch to DAB+"

Solent Wireless, the operator of the trial DAB digital radio multiplex serving Portsmouth, has announced that two additional services will be joining the service; Gaydio and Solent Wireless.

On the 27th September 2015, Gold will move from the London II multiplex to the London I multiplex, to the same DAB frequency as Capital and Kiss Fresh, taking over the bandwidth previously allocated to XFM. The Arrow will take Gold's former capacity on London II and switch from mono to stereo.

Norway’s the Post and Telecommunications Authority (NKOM) has made plans for an auction of licenses for 37 local/regional DAB+ multiplexes around the country. The auction is scheduled for early 2016.

It has also added DAB transmission to its set up – through a trial scheme with Switch Radio, which has been awarded a nine-month small-scale DAB licence for the Birmingham area by Ofcom.
