Romania’s National Authority for Communications Administration and Regulation (ANCOM) announced on March 13 it is launching a public consultation to gauge market interest in the allocation of spectrum available in the VHF and UHF band for terrestrial digital broadcasting services.

WorldDAB has crossed into triple digits with their membership, as the organisation has announced that with the addition of nine organizations since the start of 2018 there are now 104 official members from 29 countries.

DAB provides hundreds of transmissions as a route to a wider choice, ease of use and is resistant to the interference that sanitises the product. FM has a termination date. Today’s young adults do not have the same relationship with FM as previous generations.

SCA chief sales officer, Brian Gallagher says: “Listeners are embracing digital radio with the latest figures showing a 24% increase in DAB+ digital radios (3.8m devices) in Australia in the past 12 months. It’s time to start talking about our digital audiences in the same breadth as the rest of our stations. “Measuring an aggregated analogue and digital audience means we are giving our clients the ability to access more reach than ever before with an additional 360,000 listeners. And SCA is able to monetise all of our stations, be they FM or digital.”

According to Wolfgang Struber of the Digital Radio Austria Association, the analog-terrestrial possibilities in the radio sector (FM) are qualitatively and quantitatively limited by the regulated market and the free access for the listeners. "That's why digital terrestrial is the way to bring radio into the digital future, complemented by the possibilities of the 5G standard, ie an unregulated market with restricted access for listeners," says Struber.

According to Professor Mateo Burgos García of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, there are three major points to explain why digital terrestrial radio is not definitively promoted in Spain, also known as the DAB, or its evolution the DAB+.
