Slovakia - Current situation - History

T-DAB+ broadcasting in Slovakia started on 15th December 2015 at 11AM as a trial in the capital city Bratislava. This trial is operated by the company Towercom, Inc. – the biggest Slovakian network operator. Four programme services of the public broadcaster RTVS are currently transmitted. The basic parameters of the trial are:
- Frequency block: 12C
- ERPmax: 3.6 kW (i.e. 35,56 dBW)
It is expected that in the first half of 2016 the programme offer will be increased and also trials in other towns will be put into operation.
In 2015 the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic developed the draft Strategy on Implementation of the Terrestrial Digital Audio Broadcasting in the Slovak Republic. In 2016 it will be submitted to the Slovak government for approval.

There are currently no digital T-DAB broadcasts or trials on air, but the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic, in cooperation with Výskumný ústav spojov (Research Institute of Posts and Telecommunications) Banská Bystrica is currently in the process of preparing a DAB+ trial in Band III. It should be put into operation before end 2015.
According to a resolution of the Slovak government, a new draft Strategy on Implementation of the Terrestrial Digital Audio Broadcasting in the Slovak Republic is in the consultation process and should be submitted to the government for approval before end 2015.

There are currently no digital broadcasts or trials on air.
In 2002 a report entitled “Strategy and Technical Criteria for Implementation of Terrestrial Digital Audio Broadcasting in T-DAB System” was submitted to the government for approval.
The original intention was to start regular DAB transmissions in L-Band in the western part of Slovakia in 2006, and to later start DAB transmissions in Band III. There has been no recent update from Slovakia and therefore details of the latest situation are unknown.
