Successful completion of reconstruction works on the Suchá hora transmitter
04.10.2024 - Slovakia Slovakia
Slovak Television and Radio reports that in September reconstruction works on the main FM transmitter of the Slovak Radio network in the Banská Bystrica region - on Sucha Hora - were successfully completed. To support the reception of radio programmes, the T-DAB+ Suchá Hora digital transmitter was also launched during this period, providing alternative reception options. The reconstruction involved the complete replacement of the steel anchor ropes on the 300-metre high mast structure. During the works, which lasted five months, the negative impact on the transmitter's range was minimised thanks to the close cooperation between STVR, Towercom and the contractor.

Slovak DAB+ transmitters have new TII codes
20.09.2024 - Slovakia Slovakia
According to SatelitnaTV.sk's findings, the TII (Transmitter Identification Information) codes have recently been modified in most DAB+ digital radio transmitters in Slovakia. The changes affected both Towercom transmitters and the subsidiary AVIS, which operates transmitters in Nitra and Považská Bystrica. These are positive changes by both Slovak operators. Thanks to the TII code, it is possible to find out from which specific transmitter the signal is currently being received. This is particularly useful in the case of single frequency network (SFN). In central Slovakia, for example, there are up to four DAB+ transmitters in SFN.

The operator tested the transmitters several days before their official launch, so the listeners could tune the signal from these transmitters earlier. "It is a priority for us to ensure reliable coverage and high quality of service for our customers. The deployment of the DAB transmitter is a key step that will allow us to strengthen our broadcasts and at the same time improve the overall radio experience for residents and visitors to the region," said Zsolt Nagy, Towercom's CTO. Banská Bystrica – Suchá hora DAB+ transmitter switched on
22.04.2024 - Slovakia Slovakia
The operator Towercom has put into operation the twelfth DAB+ transmitter, at Banská Bystrica - Suchá hora. This will significantly improve coverage in the wider surroundings of the towns of Zvolen and Banská Bystrica. According to Towercom, the current total coverage of the population with digital radio signal is over 70%. In addition, there are plans to launch three more transmitters this year, provisionally in July 2024. "We have planned the placement of the transmitting antennas to a height of nearly 300m on the mast. We had to dismantle the original, no longer in use, antenna system and, after structural modifications to the mast, install a multi-storey antenna system with vertical polarisation, suitable for T-DAB+ broadcasting. Our priority is to ensure reliable coverage and high quality of service for our customers and to the satisfaction of radio listeners," said Zsolt Nagy, Towercom's Director of Technical Development.

DAB+ in Slovakia to significantly improve coverage with new transmitters
01.11.2023 - Slovakia Slovakia
Telerozhlas has clarified the plans it has with the network operator. A new DAB+ digital radio transmitter has just recently been launched. This brought better radio reception to Považská Bystrica and its surroundings. However, the Slovak Radio and Television has specified that its aim is to further increase the availability of stations via this technology. "RTVS's priority in expanding the T-DAB+ signal coverage is the entire D1 motorway. By the end of 2024, the total DAB+ signal coverage should be around 70 percent of the population. However, the starting criterion for expanding the coverage is road communications, not the maximisation of the coverage in % of the population," RTVS PR manager Filip Puchovsky explained to Živé.sk.
