Fusion FM arrives in Clermont-Ferrand

Since 12 July, the regional radio station Fusion FM has been covering Clermont-Ferrand and the surrounding area on DAB+. The Fusion FM team opted for DAB+, with digital broadcasting now operational for a few days. This digital broadcast will be complemented by an analogue FM broadcast on frequency 94.0, starting in September. A category B station, Fusion FM is historically based in Diou, a commune in the Allier region.

DAB+ station for LGBT+ community launched in Denmark

The Danish media group JFM, formerly known as Jysk Fynske Medier, has launched a radio station for the LGBT+ community on air. Alletiders Regnbue Hits - the greatest rainbow hits of all time - can be received via DAB+ in the greater Copenhagen area as well as in Greater and Western Jutland. The station features music with a connection to the LGBT+ community from the 1970s to today.

Ready for the winter season 2023: SwissMediaCast extends DAB+

The DAB+ stations of the Swiss-German layer OCH 02 of SwissMediaCast will in future be available in Klosters, Davos, Arosa and Lenzerheide. The two transmitters in Davos and Klosters were switched on on 22 June 2023. The transmitter in Mon for coverage of Lenzerheide and Albula/Alvra will follow on 3 August 2023. The transmitter in Arosa is planned for 7 September 2023. This means that another important tourist region will be supplied with DAB+.

Radio Scoop broadcasts in DAB+ in Clermont-Ferrand

This summer, Radio Scoop is expanding its coverage even further. In addition to its historic FM frequencies in Clermont-Ferrand and Vichy (98.8 FM), listeners can now tune in to the station in Puy-de-Dôme, Allier and Cantal (Issoire, Thiers, Saint-Flour, Moulins and Clermont-Ferrand) on DAB+. In the coming weeks, the towns of Vichy and Montluçon will be covered by DAB+ technology. Since January 2020, all cars must be fitted with DAB+-compatible car radios.

More DAB in the Hradec Králové and Pardubice regions

From 21 July a new DAB+ radio transmitter from Hradec Králové - Stěžery on channel 5D with power of 1 kW is in operation. In the regions of Hradec Králové and Pardubice, the signal of the TELEKO DAB multiplex has been strengthened, which currently broadcasts the programmes of the regional stations Czech Radio Hradec Králové and Sever, Radio Proglas, Radio 7, ZUN and TOP 40.

Ghana's DAB trial kicks off in Accra and Kumasi in August

Ghana's National Communications Authority (NCA) is pleased to announce the commencement of a Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) trial in Accra and Kumasi. 18 FM stations involved in this trial will be heard simultaneously in Accra and Kumasi. Ghana will deploy the latest version of DAB, that is DAB+. This trial positions Ghana as the first country in West Africa and the fourth in Africa to deploy DAB. The trial commences in August 2023.

Independent stations including Derby Sound move to DAB

A local Derby radio station has made the jump from online to radio broadcasting as part of a boost for the city's radio stations. The people of Derby will soon be able to tune in to a wider range of radio stations via their DAB (digital audio broadcasting) radios thanks to a new plan bringing dedicated coverage for the city. The new DAB network will carry up to 30 new radio services, including Derby Sound, that will be heard right across the city. Derby DAB will reserve space for not-for-profit stations at a discounted rate.

East Belgium: Private radio stations can participate in DAB+ pilot project

The Media Council of the German-speaking Community in East Belgium (DG) has approved the digital terrestrial broadcasting of the three private stations Radio Contact Ostbelgien, 100,5 DAS HITRADIO and Radio Sunshine for the DAB+ pilot project in channel 8A for joint use with the public Belgian Broadcasting Corporation (BRF) until 31 December 2024. BRF has been broadcasting its two programmes BRF 1 and BRF 2 from the Raeren-Petergensfeld site with a maximum power of 3 kW for a few weeks as part of the test operation. A second site in the south of the DG in Amel is being planned.

DAB+ signal to be significantly improved in Záhorie

The radiated power of digital radio broadcasting (DAB+) on the transmitter Borský Mikuláš - Dubník, which distributes the signal on channel 6D (187.072 MHz), will be doubled on 19 July 2023. This is the second power increase of the DAB+ transmitter in Slovakia this month. At the beginning of the month, the power was increased at the transmitter Banská Bystrica - Laskomer. The improvement of DAB+ coverage is based on the requirements of RTVS.

Community radio in Lower Saxony awaits DAB+ funding

Ten regional DAB+ multiplexes were launched on 13 July with a ceremony in Hanover. Twelve non-profit and non-commercial community radio programmes have not yet been switched on, however, because their financing requires a change in the law. Prof. Christian Krebs, Director of the Lower Saxony State Media Authority (NLM), explained the background to RADIOSZENE. Anja Linz and Wolfram Bäse-Jöbges from the State Association of Citizens' Media are confident that all community radio stations will also reach listeners via DAB+ from 2024.
