Deutschlandradio to convert stations from FM to DAB+

In the fall of 2018, Deutschlandradio will be the first public service broadcaster in Germany to switch completely to a purely digital broadcasting technology with DAB + in two existing FM broadcasting areas. On Germany's only offshore island Helgoland (from 28 September) and in the region Mittenwald / Krün / Wallgau in the upper Isartal (from 4 October) and then the programs Deutschlandfunk, Deutschlandfunk culture and Deutschlandfunk Nova and the special channel documents and debates over Antenna receivable, together with the complete range of programs in the nationwide DAB + multiplex in channel 5C. After a one-month simulcast operation, the parallel analogue FM broadcast will be discontinued.

The "Swiss Radio Player" is live

As announced in May, the Association of Swiss Private Radio (VSP), Unikom and Radio Régionales Romandes (RRR) have launched the Swiss Radio Player on the occasion of Swiss Radio Day, with about 130 stations to be available on the app. The three associations together with the SRG each have a 25 percent share.

Study: voice may be the future of in-car radio listening

According to new research, the addition of voice control to hybrid car radios (DAB/FM/internet) may prove a wise step as drivers glance away from the road more than six times less than when using a touchscreen radio. The research, conducted by Radioplayer and Digital Radio UK, tested the supposition that voice-control reduces driver distraction by tracking the eye movements of nine participants during a thirty minute on-road test.

Swiss Radioplayer is operational

The Swiss Radioplayer app has launched and is broadcasting more than 130 radio stations. The app is an initiative between the Swiss Association of Private Radio Stations (VSP), Union of Local Non-commercial Radio Stations (Unikom) and the Regional Radio Union of France (NRR) as well as the SSR, with each party holding 25% of the shares.

Digital listening in Switzerland increased by 14 percentage points to 63% from autumn 2015 to spring 2018, according to a new report by broadcast regulator OFCOM Switzerland. The findings also showed a 14% drop in FM listening, with the regulator citing DAB+ as the key driver towards the increase in digital listening.

Czech Radio wants to double its digital broadcasting coverage to 80 percent

In the next years, Czech Radio (Czech Radio) will increase DAB + digital coverage by 40 percent to 80 percent by 2022. Within four years, it will also transfer funding from the Special Fund to the current operating budget. This results from the Czech Radio Development Plan for the period 2019 to 2022 available to CTK.
