Countries that have approached the DAB+ digital radio standard as late adopters are deploying their networks at a much faster pace than early-riser nations, reports show. Speakers at the WorldDAB general assembly, which took place in Brussels last week, confirmed this fact.

Paneda has just received another order for the local radio operator KSU24/7, located in the mid-west of Norway. The order contains the Paneda DAB multiplexer and encoders using a the dedicated Paneda 1U hardware containing multiplexer.

Paneda has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Chiang Mai in Thailand. The MOU covers co-operations to explore the Paneda Emergency System over DAB. The University of ChiangMai will operate a DAB multiplexer system including live transmission, using DAB as carrier of important information to the public.

The Polish Radio and Television Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) has granted eleven new DAB+ licenses and extended 24 existing licenses for the multiplexes in Warsaw and Częstochowa. A new call for tenders for DAB+ licenses in Bydgoszcz, Kielce, Krakow, Łowicz, Łódź, Opole, Radom and Warsaw is also set to launch in coming months.

Following the news that RTÉ is to close at least five DAB digital radio stations, and despite the fact that the public broadcaster has not announced any timescales - or if the national multiplex it runs will be closed as well, Radio Nova has expressed strong interest in taking over the frequencies.

DAB+ has officially launched in French-speaking parts of Belgium, including the capital Brussels. A ceremony celebrating the launch of regular services was held at the offices of the CSA, the French-speaking regulator in Belgium.

Ofcom has received over a hundred replies in its consultation on the future of small scale DAB licensing. One of the proposals by Ofcom is to limit every Small Scale DAB multiplex to DAB+ transmissions.

Bailiwick Broadcasting - a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nation Broadcasting - has won the bid to provide a local DAB digital radio multiplex to the Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey for a period of 12 years. The company plans to broadcast 25 services to Jersey, Guernsey, Herm, Sark and Alderney using three transmitters.

Media Broadcast has expanded its national DAB+ network to two more locations in Bavaria, Oberammergau Untersberg. Listeners in these regions will now have access to a larger number of stations on DAB+.
