Swiss Radio Day 2021 programme published

This year's Swiss Radio Day will take place on 26 August 2021 as an on-location live event in Zurich, and live online video-streamed. Organisers have published the programme and registration is open. Topics discussed include an update on DAB+ and the ongoing preparations to switch off FM between August 2022 (public stations) and January 2023 (private stations).

Croatia launches public hearing on DAB+ tender

The Croatian Network Regulatory Agency (Hakom) has adopted a proposal on tendering individual licences for use of radio frequency spectrum for the provision of DAB+ services. Spectrum has already been allocated in the 174-240 MHz frequency range. Accordingly, a public hearing was launched, set to run until 9 July.

EECC rule boosts DAB+ radio fitment rate in Europe

In the second half of 2020, over 80% of new cars in key European markets came with DAB+ radio as standard, a “dramatic increase on the same period in 2019”, according to WorldDAB’s latest market report. “This step-change reflects the impact of the European Electronic Communications Code (EECC), which, from December 2020, requires all new car radios in the EU to be capable of receiving digital terrestrial radio”.

Radio programme B5 currently renamed to BR24

The DAB+ radio program B5 currently broadcast by the RAS in South Tyrol was renamed BR24 by the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation in July 2021. As reported by Bayerischer Rundfunk, the merging of B5 Aktuell, Rundschau and the digital offer BR24 will create a new, cross-media information offer from Bavaria under the name BR24.

MyZen radio arrives in DAB + on the French Riviera

Launched in August 2020 on digital terrestrial radio in DAB+ in Paris and Île-de-France, MyZen radio offers an atypical program in the national radio landscape. Aimed at a CSP+ audience, the new station is extending its broadcasting area on the Côte d'Azur from Menton to the gates of the Var from Monaco. MyZen radio now has a population base of more than 8 million listeners thanks to DAB+.

DAB + in the first half of 2021: strong device sales, strong new programmes

DAB+ device sales increased by 6.5% between January and May 2021 and more than 80% of new cars in Germany have a DAB+ radio included. In total, DAB+ offers more than 270 stations, of which over 70 are broadcast exclusively via DAB+.
