DAB+ in the federal states 2022: An overview

DAB+, today's radio standard and the digital successor to FM, will continue to be the most important driver of digitisation in radio broadcasting in 2022. Figures from the HEMIX (Home Electronics Market Index) show a stable level of more than 2.1 million DAB+ devices sold in 2021. In 2020, the HEMIX sold just over 1.83 million DAB+ receivers. Listeners benefit from the continuously growing variety of DAB+ services: over 300 radio stations are available via DAB+ in different regions; 100 of these will be broadcast exclusively digitally.

Two new DAB+ sites for SWR

Südwestrundfunk is apparently planning two more locations for DAB+ digital radio in Baden-Württemberg, in addition to the known locations. The Federal Network Agency sent the Reutlingen transmitter (1 kW) for the "SWR BW Süd" mux (channel 8D) and the Weinheim transmitter (2 kW) for the mux "SWR BW Nord" (channel 9D). Arcom report: growth continues in DAB+ receiver ownership

Ofcom consults on national DAB multiplex licence renewals

Ofcom is consulting on the renewal of the UK’s two national commercial DAB digital radio multiplexes. These multiplexes, operated by Digital One Limited and Sound Digital Limited, carry national commercial DAB services. This year, the Government gave Ofcom the power to renew these licences until 2035. The consultation closes on 21 July 2022, and following this, Ofcom says it will set out its final views and a timetable for renewal of both licences.

AirZen Radio continues its development in Switzerland

By mid-2022, 42% of the French population is covered by DAB+
