Acceleration of DAB+ in France as 51 new stations launch in Hauts-de-France region

On-air radio is continuing its transition to digital, as part of the trend in Europe. RTBF readies for end of medium wave ahead of DAB+ transition
19.06.2018 - BelgiumIn anticipation of the gradual transition to DAB+ in Belgium next year, RTBF has decided to gradually phase out medium wave (AM) broadcasts, firstly by reducing services by five hours a day at low listening hours (8pm- 6am), before the complete shutdown of its last two transmitters in coming months. FM broadcasts will continue to air after medium wave is switched off to enable a gradual transition to full DAB+ services.

Nine stations broadcasting in DAB+ in Kyiv trial
19.06.2018 - UkraineNine radio stations are broadcasting in the first DAB+ trials in Kyiv following the country's earlier tender process. Ukrainian National Broadcasting Council NRADA chairman Yuriy Artemenko and council member Sergey Kostinsky conducted tests of the new service, reporting that they were able to receive several stations in their vicinity without lifting the antenna from their receiver. Winners from a new tender process will be announced 14 August.

DAB+ to expand in Hauts-de-France
19.06.2018 - FranceThe launch of DAB+ in the northern French city of Lille and the Hauts-de-France region is an important step in the development of digital radio and in the roadmap driven by the CSA to cover 70% of the French population by 2020. 50 stations will launch in DAB+ in the region following Tuesday's launch.

French station Horizon to begin DAB+ broadcast
18.06.2018 - FranceHauts-de-France radio station Horizon will begin DAB+ broadcasts on 19 June following the launch of the digital standard in the region, enabling 39 stations to launch digital radio. A second launch phase will take place in the areas of Lens, Bethune, Arras and Douai in September 2018.

More DAB+ progress in Ukraine, Belgium and France
18.06.2018 - Ukraine - Belgium - FranceDAB+ services have begun in the Ukraine for the first time in Kyiv on 15 June, following the awarding of tenders in March. In Belgium, regulations that will open the way for the deployment of DAB+ in French-speaking Belgium, were approved in the Parliament of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. France's CSA has announced a new strategy to “relaunch” the deployment of DAB+ in the country, with the long-term objective is to cover 30 regions and to go from 20–70% coverage of the country by 2020.
