As the indie station celebrates its 20th anniversary, 6 Music is the biggest digital station in the UK, with 2.6 million listeners. Key players explain its humble roots, how it survived the threat of cancellation, and how they see its future.

The 80’s (WSFM,GOLD,97.3,Mix,96FM) stations have the biggest cumes for the DAB+ market in survey 1 with 288,000 listeners nationally.

The license holders for the broadcast of local FM radio programs in Rhineland-Palatinate have jointly applied to the media authority of Rhineland-Palatinate for a test licence for DAB+ platform operation.

Digris AG from Switzerland approached Deutschlandradio with an offer to broadcast the three Deutschlandradio programs Deutschlandfunk, Deutschlandfunk Kultur and Deutschlandfunk in selected regions of German-speaking Switzerland via DAB+. After examining the offer, Deutschlandradio allowed digris AG to feed the programs into their regional DAB+ multiplexes. Since March 8th, these can be received in the regions of south-eastern Switzerland, Bernese Oberland and Upper Valais.

Extending it to the entire broadcast network in the territorial scope of coverage, it can be immediately deduced that electricity savings can be obtained by migrating from FM to DAB+."

OIV, (Transmitters and Communications Ltd.) the Croatian network provider of national strategic communications infrastructure, and Paneda have signed a long-term agreement for the rollout of DAB+ in Croatia.

Fix Radio is joining the Sound Digital Ltd DAB multiplex expanding its coverage across the country. Station founder and CEO Louis Timpany has posted a video online with the news, saying it will target the 2.2m builders in the UK.

Podcast Radio has attracted Nation Broadcasting as an investor and partner ahead of planned international growth. The deal sees Nation taking a 10% interest in Podcast Radio, which currently broadcasts on DAB+ in London, Surrey, Manchester and Birmingham.

The radio landscape will soon be enriched by another radio station: The Brillux company will soon be going on air with its own radio program via DAB+ and a web stream. The company, headquartered in Münster, would like to complement its existing online and print channels with “Brillux Radio”.
