Ofcom makes revisions to DAB technical rules for broadcasters

The rules ensure that digital radio signals are transmitted in a uniform way, and do not conflict or interfere with each other, starting today.In brief, changes are made surrounding ACI/blocking procedures, Spectrum masks for DAB, and dropping the requirements to gain extra permission to broadcast using DAB+.

DAB digital radio sales reach 75 million worldwide

Small-scale DAB pioneer wins royal recognition
08.06.2019 - United KingdomRashid Mustapha, a radio engineer from Brighton who works for the industry regulator Ofcom, has been made an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list. In 2012, he carried out the first test of small-scale digital audio broadcasting (DAB) in the country in Brighton, pioneering the groundbreaking approach to broadcasting known as small-scale DAB.

Indian auto manufacturer Mahindra includes DAB+ in latest range
07.06.2019 - IndiaThe Mahindra W6’s standard features now include 17-inch alloy wheels, a 6.0-inch multimedia (non-touch) screen, which features DAB+ digital radio as well as a CD player, cruise control, auto wipers, three ISOFIX child-seat mounting points across the second row, and a cooled centre console box.
Stepping up to the W10 adds a 7.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with built-in sat-nav, reversing camera, and keyless entry and push-start.

DAB+ to launch in Orleans in 2020
07.06.2019 - FranceDAB+ digital radio is set to launch in the city of Orleans and the wider region of Le Loiret (France), in the first half of 2020. Listeners across the region in central France will be able to benefit from a wider range of programs, clearer sound and additional on-screen information. 70% of the population of France is expected to have access to DAB+ by 2020.

Nation Broadcasting launch second DAB transmitter for Glasgow DAB trial multiplex

The new signal now synchronises with the first transmitter to create a Single Frequency Network (SFN). DAB+ goes up the charts in Australia
06.06.2019 - AustraliaAustralia’s demand for DAB+ digital radio continues to surge with more than 4.21 million people, or 30% of the population listening to the platform each week. The total number of DAB+ radios in Australia, including those in cars, rose to 4.73 million at the end of 2018, a 24% increase from 3.80 million at the end of 2017.

Czech Radio to launch new DAB+ transmitters
05.06.2019 - Czech Radio WorldDAB Member - CzechiaCzech Radio has announced its plans to expand its DAB+ network in the Czech Republic with the launch of nine new transmitters. The launches, which will be done in partnership with Český Radiokomunikace, are set to start in the second half of 2019, will increase population coverage in the country from 61% to 80%.

Sublime digital radio channels attract new audience in the Netherlands
