EU Parliament decides digital radio duty for new vehicles

On 14 November 2018, the European Parliament adopted the new European Electronics Communication Code (ECC). According to this directive, all new car radios must be equipped with a receiver for digital terrestrial radio reception. This will make the long-demanded commitment of the automotive industry to the standard equipment of your new vehicles with DAB + digital radios a reality across the EU.

The European Parliament in its Plenary session voted to adopt the new European Electronic Communications Code. This Directive will require all new car radios in the EU to be capable of receiving digital terrestrial radio. This requirement is in addition to any FM or AM functionality which manufacturers may wish to include.

EU Parliament backs digital radio in cars

The European Parliament has voted in its Plenary session to adopt the new European Electronic Communications Code, requiring all new car radios in the EU to be capable of receiving digital terrestrial radio. The next steps for the Directive are: first, formal approval by the Council and, second, publication in the Official Journal of the European Union – at which point the Directive enters into force. These steps are expected to be completed in early 2019.

In-car radio the focus of conference in Rome

From the FM band to digital radio: one in five Flemings move to DAB+

For the Flemish Minister of Media, Sven Gatz (Open VLD), the big radio stations will have to disappear from the FM band from here. The goal is to digitise the entire radio network in the north of the country. According to the first measures of the Ipsos office, one in five Flemings have gone digital. "That's more than we thought," commented Mr Gatz.
