At the recent 2017 WorldDAB Automotive event, speakers from automotive manufacturers, regulators and the broadcast industry gathered to discuss the growing adoption of DAB radio in the car. Attendees saw the results from research WorldDAB and its members have undertaken into the digital radio user experience in cars.

New research, announced at the just concluded WorldDAB Automotive 2017 in Munich, has explored the in-car user experience of digital radio. Carried out in Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Belgium, the research asked consumers about their experience of in-car digital radio. This is the first research of its kind on the user experience of digital radio in the car.

The automotive industry has been supporting this work through the WorldDAB UX Group and initial reaction to the findings has been positive.

A touchscreen sits in the middle of the dashboard - 7-inch in size, or 8-inch on higher specification models - and every model gets DAB, Bluetooth, a USB socket and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

At the Department of Media Systems at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, an online service has been developed to provide live supplementary services to digital radio.

There's plenty of standard equipment including a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, DAB digital radio and smartphone app integration.
