The Dutch are embracing digital radio. Two million people now listen to radio via DAB+, three times as many as it was in 2015. Sales of DAB+ has increased 48 per cent year on year and 35 per cent of cars sold in the country now have DAB+ as standard.

The past year has seen strong political commitment for digitising radio, the launch of many new DAB+ services, increased national, regional and local coverage and more investment than ever in marketing digital radio to the consumer - all of which is driving DAB+ adoption across Europe and around the world. With France at an important stage of development, the WorldDAB General Assembly 2017 will take place in Paris, bringing together the digital radio industry to discuss the future of radio.

At a packed Doing the DAB event in Cardiff on Thursday night the audience heard from BBC Radio Wales, Nation Radio and Communicorp about the thriving digital radio market in South Wales.

Research firm GfK indicates that 13% of the Dutch listen to DAB+ radio—about 2 million people. This is a three fold increase since 2015. In the Netherlands, the number of DAB+ radios sold grew by 48% in the first half of 2017 compared with the same period last year.
