Germany continues to take steps toward the digitisation of radio, having launched last week its second national multiplex. The new multiplex will reach an audience of 67 million and host up to 16 commercial stations.

The Czech Republic's DAB+ organisation's website has gone through a visual rebranding- reflecting the growing momentum of DAB+ in the Czech Republic, and the recent DAB+ network expansion that brought population coverage to 98%.

DAB Italia has signed a long-term frame agreement with Paneda for supplying DAB multiplexer systems. Paneda has recently provided a fully equipped complete redundant system including multiplexer and audio encoders.

German public broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) has launched a new transmitter to improve DAB+ coverage in the Lower Saxonny, northern Germany.

In France, cumulative DAB+ receiver sales now stand at 3,4 million - one million more than at the same time last year - while 59% of new vehicles now come equipped with DAB+, compared to only 25% one year ago.

By the end of June 2020, over 93 million consumer and automotive DAB/DAB+ receivers had been sold in Europe and Asia Pacific. That number is up from 82 million a year earlier, according to new data from WorldDAB. The report covers Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and the UK.

During the virtual launch event, Dorothee Bär, Minister of State in the Federal Chancellery and Federal Government Commissioner for Digitalisation at the Federal Chancellery, emphasised that the platform will give new momentum to the advertising market.

WorldDAB’s latest market report reveals that by the end of Q2 2020, over 93 million consumer and automotive DAB/DAB+ receivers had been sold in Europe and Asia Pacific – up from 82 million one year earlier.

“DAB is now firmly established as the core future platform for radio in Europe.” So argues WorldDAB, citing its most recent data on receiver sales, household penetration and the number of stations on the air.
