The Berlin-Brandenburg Media Council (mabb) has launched a new call for tenders for DAB+ broadcasting licences in Berlin and the surrounding state of Brandenburg. Applications must be submitted by 28 June 2019.

The five-day workshop, which is organised by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development and will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, aims to provide broadcasters and other media professionals with a clear understanding of digital radio broadcasting services. This workshop will provide expert knowledge and information on the current status of digital terrestrial radio broadcasting, interactive multimedia services, digital radio broadcasting as well as sharing some of the case studies and experiences in the process of transition from analogue to digital.

According to the findings of the 2019 Infinite Dial Australia study, radio is the most popular audio platform with 83 per cent of Australians surveyed using DAB+ or AM/FM in the last week. The study also highlighted that radio dominates in the car, with 85 per cent of those who have driven or ridden in a car in the last month listening to radio.

The Elite music system includes DAB+ digital radio and FM, Internet radio, CD, Bluetooth as well as supporting various streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer and Amazon Music. The Elite will be available from all premium and specialist retailers as well as online from the end of May 2019.

Factum Radioscape have announced an agreement with GRAM (Group of Radios Associatives of the Nantes Metropole) to supply the DAB+ measuring tool Observa: a portable device for measuring and analysing DAB+ RF signals. GRAM is currently installing the DAB network in Nantes with the commencement date set to 2nd July 2019, with 26 radios to be broadcast including 10 community radios.

Juice Cork has a new sound to promote their addition to the Éirdab DAB digital radio multiplex trial in Cork. The music and sound design are elements from Rob Wills’ Media production service ‘Audio Sweets ASX’.

WorldDAB president Patrick Hannon will be taking the stage as part of the “Terrestrial Challenges” session on Thursday May 23, where he will give an overview of the development and rollout of DAB+ digital radio across Europe, with case studies and lessons learned from various countries across Europe. This year’s MBT conference will also be marked by the first seminar organised by the WorldDAB Spectrum and Network Implementation Committee (SNIC), which will be held at 2pm on Wednesday May 22.

On 2 May 2019, RTBF launched RTBF Mix, a new radio station that combines different RTBF programs and stations - including La Première, Classic 21 and VivaCité - into one single station broadcast on DAB+ across the French-speaking region of Belgium.

Radio Germany One is set to become the first English language radio station to be broadcast on DAB+ in Germany. The station is due to launch on 1 May 2019, and will be available to DAB+ listeners in and around Berlin.
