Following successful trials starting in 2008, a national multiplex operated by the Office National de la Télédiffusion (ONT), the national public broadcaster in Tunisia, was installed in March 2019. It is now on air, covering 75% of Tunisia’s 11 million inhabitants.

Within  the framework of transition from analogue to digital terrestrial network DAB + in Tunisia, the completion of the first phase of the DAB+ project was done during  2019 ensuring coverage of about 51% of the population.

The second phase of the network was completed by the end of 2020, bringing the coverage rate to 75% of the population. The third phase is expected to be completed in 2023 with an anticipated coverage rate of 98%.

Work is ongoing to bring all industry players together, to develop a roadmap and timetable for the digitisation of radio, and to take the required actions to ensure the supply of digital radio receivers – both domestic and in cars.
