Switzerland - Coverage - History

01.07.2008

By June 2008 DAB coverage in Switzerland had reached about 90% of the population.  The Swiss public broadcaster, SRG SSR ideé suisse, has now started filling the last white spots on the DAB coverage map, most of which are in remote or sparsely populated areas.  The most recent region to receive DAB reception is the Valais, which leaves only the Grisons in the East of Switzerland awaiting coverage.

Full DAB coverage (apart from some major tunnels) should be achieved by the end of 2008.

A major network ‘overhaul’ was done in the French speaking part of Switzerland at the end of February 2007, which increased coverage of the French speaking population from 60% to 75%.

Summer 2007 brought another great expansion of the DAB network: The whole of the Bernese Oberland, a major tourist area, was fitted out for DAB reception in July.

At the end of 2007 about 85% of Switzerland was covered for DAB reception. Full DAB coverage across the country will be granted by the end of 2008.

90% population coverage nationwide. 90% of German speaking population covered by the end of 2007. 85% of French speaking population covered by the end of 2007. 100% of Italian speaking population covered by the end of 2007. Full DAB coverage across Switzerland will be granted by 2009. With coverage enlargement the mobile reception will be changed to 95% indoor reception. There has been a lot of DAB success in the newly covered Italian speaking part, where FM reception is poor.
