Slovenia - Current situation - History
19.07.2016
On 1st June the Agency for Communication Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia (AKOS) published a tender for radio stations (content providers) for slots in the multiplex. At least 14 stations and some additional services will be transmitted. There will be public (RTV) stations and commercial stations on the multiplex: all will have to go to through a tender process. All major radio stations in Slovenia have announced interest in participating.
There are 10 slots available for commercial programmes. Licenses for 4 slots for public radio programmes (by public broadcaster RTV Slovenia) will be issued without public tender (directly by the law). If everything goes well the DAB+ network should be live with 14 radio programmes in mid-September 2016.
AKOS issued a license for the first regular national T-DAB+ network in Slovenia to the public broadcaster RTV Slovenia which was the only tenderer. The network should be operational in September this year and will initially be powered by 7 medium-power transmitters to cover urban areas and highways. After a while when penetration of DAB+ receiver has increased, additional sites will be installed. If deployed as envisaged the initial network will cover around 70% of the population of Slovenia.
AKOS is an independent body that regulates and supervises the electronic communications market, manages and supervises the radio frequency spectrum in the Republic of Slovenia, performs tasks in the field of radio and television broadcasting, and regulates and supervises the postal and railway service markets.
