Regulator ANCOM has said it will propose legislative amendments ahead of a new DTT tender due to take place in the second half of 2018. This follows the results of a public consultation on the spectrum available in the FM band (174-230 MHz) aimed at transforming a VHF digital TV multiplex into four DAB+ national multiplexes.
The Romanian National Authority for Administration and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) has published a tender document for public consultation that will oversee the introduction of DAB+ multiplexes in the country. Submissions can be made until 24 September 2018, after which ANCOM will make recommended modifications to the intial proposal and establish a calendar for later action. On the 20th of January 2016 The National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) launched a public consultation on the allocation of digital terrestrial broadcasting multiplexes T-DAB in the band 216-230MHz. Romania has planned two layers of T-DAB spectrum currently occupied by analogue television channels 11 and 12 (216-230 MHz band), through which it can transmit 12 radio programmes.
The Authority drew up a questionnaire addressed to all suppliers potentially interested in acquiring the rights to use the multiplexes to find out their opinion on the manner and the conditions for granting the frequencies and intentions of incumbents or of potential new entrants with regards to their participation in any competitive selection procedure for the allocation of the spectrum available.
A trial DAB multiplex broadcasts six radio services from public broadcaster Radio Romania in Bucharest.
