Poland - Current situation - History

There are currently two trial local multiplexes running in Poland, one delivering DAB+ services and another delivering a mix of DAB+ and DMB services.

In the capital city Warsaw and Kielce, Emitel operates a multiplex broadcasting six audio services using DAB+ which reaches 2 .5 million people and airs public stations.

In the capital, Warsaw, a second multiplex is being tested. Operated by INFO-TV-OPERATOR it is broadcasting Polish Radio programmes - four audio channels using DAB+ and one video service on DMB. It is built as SFN of two transmitters. One of them is situated on “Marriott Hotel”, second on “Kaweczyn”, they reach 2 .5-3 million people.

This year, after the switch off of analogue TV, in Warsaw and Katowice, Polskie Radio is planning to start regular DAB+ services with 12 channels - five national channels (Jedynka, Dwojka, Trojka, Czworka, Polish Radio External Service), one regional channel (depending on region) and six new channels.

In the capital, Warsaw, Emitel operates a multiplex broadcasting 12 audio services using DAB+ and one mobile TV service using DMB. It reaches 2.5 million people and airs a combination of public and commercial stations. This trial multiplex launched in November 2009.

Polskie Radio together with four regional public radio stations: Radio Wroclaw, Radio Gdansk, Radio Poznan and Radio dla Ciebie had planned the launch of a DAB+ public multiplex to be broadcast in the four cities where the Euro 2012 football matches were played (Warsaw, Wroclaw, Gdansk and Poznan). Unfortunately due to lack of funding this project was cancelled.
