Norway - Coverage - History
04.02.2014
As of Jan 2014, 90% of Norway's population has access to DAB-reception. Most of the road coverage is completed.
Please find coverage map for Norway here: www.radio.no/dekning. (Enter name of city and choose year, and the map will show the coverage of the relevant area. You can also select an individual radio station. Orange color indicates strong signals).
The DAB-network building is ahead of schedule, and will be completed by Autumn 2014. Then NRK will have reached 99.5% population coverage and the commercial stations will have 90% coverage. A video showing some of the challenges of building a DAB network covering all of Norway`s challenging topography can be seen here: www.radio.no (scroll to "Hva er digitalradio?", and press Play).
Tunnels will have DAB-coverage before FM-shutdown, all tunnels that require FM-coverage today, will then be equipped with DAB. Contrary to FM, where only a few channels have tunnel coverage, all channels on the outside of a tunnel will be available also on the inside.
Generally, area coverage for DAB will be equal to, or better than FM when the national DAB-networks are completed.

National and regional multiplexes cover about 84% of the population. 90% will be reached by late Autumn 2013. Coverage will get to 99.5% by autumn 2014 (NRK only will exceed 90%) but as the plan for this stage is not yet completed no map is yet available. Reaching up to 90% population coverage will greatly improve road and general outdoor coverage.
