Last year Antenna Hungária chose DAB+ for its terrestrial radio standard, allowing the broadcast of 16 to 18 digital radio channels. Coverage is estimated to reach 94% population coverage by the end of 2014. Antenna Hungária began its DAB+ trial on January 23 2009 in Budapest and its surrounding areas. The trial offers a variety of services and will last until the commercial services become available. In conjunction with the launch of the trial, DAB+ digital radio receivers are now in the Hungarian. Work on regulation is continuing in this region and further information is expected in 2010.

A DAB trial has been on air in Budapest for many years and was initiated by the content provider ‘Magyar Rádió’ and the broadcaster company ‘Antenna Hungária’. A national DAB digital radio multiplex is expected to be awarded in 2008, with services likely to launch by the end of the year.
