More new DAB radio transmitters for Cornwall

The launch of new digital transmitters in Cornwall was celebrated at a special switch on event in St Austell this morning. The ten transmitters bring the county’s popular local stations to 325,000 more listeners on DAB digital radio in Cornwall and have expanded local DAB coverage to 91% of households.

Fix Radio plans free bacon rolls for launch

A new London DAB station aimed at tradespeople, "Fix Radio", will launch on Wednesday 26th April and plans to give away 20,000 bacon rolls over the first 40 days of broadcasting. The station will provide “music and cheeky banter” aimed at bricklayers, plumbers, electricians, plasterers, roofers, painters and decorators whether they work on site or in people’s homes.

Dutch broadcasters making further use of local DAB+ transmitters

Europe in a different light: Euradio will arrive on DAB this autumn

A national Euradio programme that focuses on debating major European issues and promoting the cultural and linguistic diversity of Europe, will be taking over from Euradionantes this autumn on the digital DAB frequencies in Lille, Lyon and Strasbourg. The move takes advantage of the opportunity presented by DAB radio in France to create a national medium for offering European editorial related local news.

How the BBC runs a radio station that only lasts four days

BBC Radio 2 operated a pop-up radio station for just four days, called “BBC Radio 2 Country” to coincide with the UK’s biggest country music festival. The station was carried on the BBC’s national DAB digital radio multiplex. By careful planning, the BBC was able to “borrow” a certain amount of bitrate from its other radio stations, and use that bitrate to add the pop-up station as an additional service.
