2014 Toyota LandCruiser Prado comes with DAB+ as standard.

It may be older than bubble gum, quartz watches and penicillin, but radio continues to grow into new areas, according to a recent report from ratings agency AC Nielsen. Thanks to recent developments in radio technology, radio waves can now carry more data in less bandwidth, moving radio from an era that predated refrigerators, zippers and ballpoint pens to the modern era of Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB+).

Of course, first and foremost, this is a radio too, with features such as DAB and FM reception, rotary tuning and volume controls, RDS station name display, a stereo line out socket, headphone socket and portability thanks to the matching carry handle.

With the 7 usual digital radio DAB+ programs of the national mux : Rai1, Rai2, Rai3, FD4, FD5, Isoradio, GRParlamento with DLS and SLS services, new digital radio channels with local content and preferrably in the local language, were requested by Debora Serracchiani, President of the autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, during the 16th November RAI presentation. Rai digital radio services will go on air in Friuli Venezia Giulia, using the DAB+ standard. The Friuli Venezia Giulia is the second Italian region after Trentino-Alto Adige, to start testing the new standard, which allows enriching the radio alongside additional content, and avoids interference.

The likes of Roberts and Pure seem to have the retro radio market sewn up, but with designs like Hepburn and Bardot vintage-style DAB radios, there might be room for View Quest too.

BBC Radio 6 Music, a digital radio station operated by the U.K. public broadcaster, will offer some counter-programming this holiday season, announcing it will air an interview with Metallica's Lars Ulrich and two shows hosted by the "godfather of punk" Iggy Pop around Christmas and New Year's.

Speaking on this week's RadioToday Programme, Ford Ennals said that the row this week between smaller commercial radio operators and industry bodies boils down to a difference of opinion about the pace of change.
