DAB+ could be introduced on Digital 2 multiplex

DAB+ in the UK becomes more likely as Ofcom consults over Code changes. Ofcom is consulting over a revised Digital Radio Technical Code, which could pave the way for DAB+ to be implemented in the UK. The proposed new Digital 2 multiplex could contain a mix of original DAB and DAB+ services.

Over 45% of new cars with DAB

Following the news last week that new vehicle sales in March were the highest for a decade, new figures have been released from CAP and the SMMT which show that in Q1 2014, 45.2% of new cars came with DAB digital radio as standard, up from 42.8% in Q4 2013.

On Monday 7 April a delegation from Thailand’s radio and government visited NRK. They visited in order to see how things are done in the first country to officially announce that it will switch off FM. FM switch off could happen as early as 2017 as long as certain coverage and listening requirements are met. Thailand is also on the road to digitizing its radio industry and started on the process about a year ago.
