Digital radio boost plan for Northern Ireland announced at the Belfast Media Festival

Milestone for DAB+ in the car as EU adopts new digital radio directive

The European Parliament this week adopted a new communications directive requiring all new cars sold in the EU to be equipped with digital radio receivers. The decision, which is driven by an industry trend away from the prevailing FM standard toward digital radio, is expected to be formally embraced in early 2019. DAB+, the most common standard for digital radio, can be transmitted more cost effectively than FM signals and is seen as more reliable than internet radio in the car.

Technical tests initiated ahead of full-scale deployment of DAB in Belgium

Bauer Media to launch the Greatest Hits Radio nationwide on DAB in the UK

EU Parliament says ‘yes’ to in-car digital radio

The European Parliament has voted to adopt the European Electronic Communications Code, which requires that all new car radios in the European Union are able to receive digital terrestrial radio. DAB + rollout gaining significant ground in France

Following the successful rollout of DAB+ in Paris, Marseille and Nice in 2014, DAB+ is continuing to gain ground in France as both Lille and Lyon prepare to launch the technology at the start of December. These launches will result in 20% of French territory being covered by digital radio, and subsequently trigger a requirement for manufacturers to incorporate a DAB+ tuner into all their equipment sold in France.
