Sweden's Teracom: Cellular Networks not Realistic Alternative to OTA Broadcasts
02.12.2013 - Cibicom A/S - SwedenSwedish Broadcast network operator Teracom engaged the Swedish consulting and research company A-focus to analyze a hypothetical scenario in which the analog FM network in Sweden is shut down in 2022 and subsequently not replaced with a digital terrestrial network (with DAB+ or a compatible technology) but rather by using the cellular networks to broadcast digital radio.

MobileTV targets April launch
28.11.2013 - South AfricaMobileTV, which has been running trials for three years, is set to finally go live with its offerings in April, but not on a handheld device as it has yet to receive a licence. The company was this week granted additional trial licences by the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) to test the Korean Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) technology in East London, Port Elizabeth, and the Durban, Pietermaritzburg areas.

Unrealistic to substitute broadcast radio with distribution via cellular networks
27.11.2013 - Sweden“Some people believe it is possible to replace broadcast radio with radio via cellular networks. Surely, they have not done the math. I have done the math and the conclusion is clear – it is not a realistic alternative,” says Göran Hedström, senior consultant at A-Focus and primary author of the report.The report, “Can the cellular networks cope with linear radio broadcasting?”, lists several arguments for why it is not a credible alternative.
