Automotive industry embraces DAB+ radio

At the recently held 2017 WorldDAB Automotive event in Munich, speakers from automotive manufacturers, regulators, and the broadcast industry, gathered to discuss the growing adoption of DAB radio in the car. The event also saw the results from research WorldDAB and its members have undertaken into the digital radio user experience in cars, a first of its kind study.

24 applications for DAB+ capacity in Berlin and Brandenburg

24 radio stations have applied for the DAB+ capacity in Berlin and Brandenburg, marketed by the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg (mabb). "I am delighted about the abundance of applications and the commitment to DAB+ in the region," says mabb Director Dr. Anja Zimmer.

20 percent of Bavaria have a DAB+ radio

Now, 20.1 percent of the population aged 14 or over in Bavaria have at least one DAB+ receiver in their household. This has almost doubled since 2015, when the figure was only 10.2 percent.

24 applications for DAB+ capacities in Berlin and Brandenburg

24 radio broadcasters have applied for the DAB+ capacities in Berlin and Brandenburg, which have been marketed by the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg (mabb). Of the applicants, 15 are also interested in DAB+ broadcasting in Brandenburg, beyond the Berlin metropolitan area. The media council will now deal with the applications received.

DAB+ sets in Australia are still regarded as premium products by many manufacturers, and these lower-priced receivers should be welcomed by audiences. Within existing transmission areas, over 25% of Australians listen to DAB+ radio every week.
BBC Radio 1 to launch pop up station with 50th birthday

Radio 1 will launch a pop-up sister station later this year as part of its 50th birthday celebrations. Radio 1 Vintage will broadcast on DAB and iPlayer for three days from 30 September.

The amount of manufacturers building DAB digital radio receivers is growing, and in Australia there'll shortly be a new brand on the market. Richter, established in 1986 and well-known in Australia's loudspeaker market, move into the Australian DAB+ market with two budget models, followed by some connected receivers later in the year.
