The European Broadcast Union (EBU), which represents the European public service broadcasters, the European Digital Radio Alliance (EDRA) and WorldDAB have joined forces in a joint declaration to ensure that all radio models sold in the EU in the future will be broadcast on one interface for DAB+.

Speakers include Dave Cameron, general manager at Southern Cross Austereo; Joan Warner, vice president and Asia Pacific chair of the WorldDAB and CEO of Commercial Radio Australia; Lindsay Cornell, chair of WorldDAB’s Technical Committee and principal systems architect, BBC; Les Sabel from WorldDAB and Commercial Radio Australia; Bernie O’Neill, project director at WorldDAB; Ben Poor, project manager and the European Broadcasting Union; Nick Piggott, project director at RadioDNS; and Jørn Jensen, senior adviser at NRK.

WorldDAB and RadioDNS have produced a set of guidelines for automotive manufacturers and broadcasters. The guidelines outline best practice for broadcasters with services on FM and DAB to supply and update brand logos, and guidance to automotive manufacturers for downloading and display of these logos. Based on open standards, the guidelines aim to provide clarity and certainty to help deliver the best radio experience to drivers.

Prefect of the Secretariat for Communication of the Holy See Mons. Dario Edoardo Viganò describes the digital future for Vatican Radio: "It is clear that the future of radio will be played more and more in the digital environment. Everything is connected now: from buildings to cars. And the radio medium cannot remain on the margins of this process that has already caused the dissolution of traditional borders between different media."

WorldDAB has announced the line-up of speakers and sessions for its upcoming DAB+ Digital Radio Workshop, set to take place in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, March 5 right before ABU's 2018 Digital Broadcasting Symposium. With more and more broadcasters implementing DAB+ in Asia Pacific, the workshop, entitled “DAB+ in a multiplatform world,” will discuss “how DAB+ can secure a strong future for radio.”

The range of commercial radio stations via DAB+ in Berlin and the surrounding federal state of Brandenburg will be expanded considerably. In total, the regional media council MABB gave 23 licenses to radio stations to broadcast via DAB+ in Berlin and its surroundings.

The three parties are working to ensure that all future radio models sold in the EU have an interface to DAB+. A corresponding directive is to be enshrined in a single Code for Broadcasting in the European Union (European Electronic Communications Code).

Bayerischer Rundfunk announced on Monday that its number of DAB+ transmitter networks will be expanded in 2018, with the body planning up to 32 new connections this year. The availability of DAB+ with all ten BR stations and regional stations are expected toimprove again in all regions as a result of the planned measures.
