The new face of DAB in 2020

UK government helping local radio switch to digital
05.01.2018 - United KingdomThe Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has launched a consultation on how best to develop a licensing process to help create a UK-wide network of DAB multiplexes, for use by about 400 local radio stations that still broadcast on analogue technology. The government is planning to create a new, community radio-focused option – dubbed the C-DSP – that offers a significantly more streamlined application and approval process. Stations holding a C-DSP licence would be eligible for funding from the Community Radio Fund and would also have access to small-scale multiplex capacity that has been ring-fenced for use by community stations.

Small Scale DAB radio consultation launched
04.01.2018 - United KingdomA consultation with the aim of including community radio stations on the DAB platform has been launched today by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport. The Government will now consult on the best approach for a licensing process that is appropriate for small-scale DAB radio multiplexes, with the aim of having a new licensing arrangements in place by the end of the year. The consultation will run for 8 weeks, and closes on the 28 February 2018.
