Metadata helps maintain your station’s visual presence in the car
07.10.2020 by WorldDAB
This summer, WorldDAB launched a metadata campaign to urge broadcasters to focus on their brand in the car. With the size of screens in the cars increasing, how does your station look and how can you maximise your brand in the car?
Metadata is the information used to ensure your radio station is prominent in the car – it is information all stations already use within other marketing platforms – Online, in apps etc. This information includes station name, station logo, artist name, album artwork and more. Without metadata, your station will be playing but the screen in the car will be blank – a missed opportunity?
It’s also important to the car industry that radio – as a key part of the dashboard – continues to look and feel like a platform which is keeping pace with the car industry. To date, without the support of the radio industry the vehicle manufacturers have designed their own ‘Radio’ screens and have needed to purchase radio station logo databases to ensure that what the driver sees is what the driver hears. However, these databases are difficult to update and, in many instances, when stations change their brand everywhere else the old branding remains in the car.
WorldDAB created the Metadata Campaign to raise awareness of these issues. The campaign assets include a video explainer for senior execs, FAQs and an information sheet for those wanting to find out more. More information is available on this page.
If you would like to find out more about how to maximise and protect your brand in the car, you will need to ensure you have the right metadata on air via DAB+. WorldDAB brings together a number of companies and organisations who can assist in making your station look good in the car, including Radioplayer, RadioDNS, Radioline, Pluxbox and Xperi – they can get your metadata in to the car manufacturers and on the dashboard. You can also find details of all these companies on the WorldDAB website here.
