WorldDAB Automotive 2018: DAB+ adoption and marketing

With just a week to go until WorldDAB Automotive 2018, two key themes feature in the programme: how to improve the number of cars sold with DAB+ as standard, and how broadcasters are marketing in-car digital radio to the driver.
At our General Assembly in Paris last November, we interviewed three industry experts on their work in getting cars converted to digital – Robbert van den Heuvel from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), Laurence Harrison from Digital Radio UK and Joost Kaesemans from FEBIAC (the federation of the Automobile and Cycle Industry in Belgium and Luxembourg). The discussion gave interesting insight into the existing levels of DAB+ adoption, and how vehicle manufacturers and national DAB+ promotional organisations are working together to drive up adoption.

We looked also at how digital radio is being marketed to drivers around the world. People love radio and they love listening on the move, with research showing that radio is one of the features people wouldn’t be willing to give up in their car. We’ve seen that many of the marketing campaigns focus on the benefits of digital radio in the car and how easy it is to upgrade an analogue car radio to digital.
