Cornell receives second WorldDAB Award for Outstanding Service
13.11.2024 by Will Jackson
This year’s WorldDAB Award for Outstanding Service has been given to Lindsay Cornell, Chair of WorldDAB’s Technical Committee, and Principal Systems Architect for BBC Digital.
The Award recognises an individual for an exceptional contribution to the roll-out of DAB+ digital radio and is made annually at the WorldDAB General Assembly. It is offered in memory of Per-Erik Selemark of Swedish Radio, former vice president and chair of the Technical Committee, who died in January 1999.
The award was presented at the WorldDAB General Assembly in Zagreb, Croatia on 13 November, in recognition of his work within the WorldDAB Technical Committee which culminated in the development of the new ETSI standards for the new DAB+ Automatic Safety Alert system.
Reflecting his long-standing commitment to DAB, this is the first time that a second WorldDAB Award for Outstanding Service has been given to one person. Cornell first received the award in 2010.
Presenting the Award, WorldDAB President Jacqueline Bierhorst described Cornell as “a remarkable individual whose career spans over three decades with one of Europe’s largest public broadcasters."
"His multifaceted roles in engineering, editorial, and leadership across radio, television, spectrum regulation, and the internet have set a benchmark for excellence," she added. “His technical expertise and exceptional project management and people skills have undoubtedly had a huge impact on our industry, and we are grateful to be able to count him as one of our key members.”
