Meet us in Munich for Radiodays Europe 2024
21.02.2024 by Will Jackson
With just one month to go, we’re already excited about being part of Radiodays Europe 2024, held this year in Munich from 17-19 March.
Radiodays Europe was born in 2010 as a response to the needs of the European industry, public and private, to come together to discuss the new media challenges, across borders. It’s grown to become one of the most important annual conferences for radio professionals, with over 1600 participants from 65 countries.
WorldDAB will be well-represented at the three-day event at the International Congress Center Messe München, including President, Jacqueline Bierhorst and Project Director, Bernie O’Neill.
There’s already a great line-up of speakers, with more being added. The event kicks off on Monday morning with a heavyweight keynote session including local industry leaders Thorsten Schmiege, President of the Bavarian Regulatory Authority for New Media (BLM), and Katja Wildermuth, Director-General of Bayerischer Rundfunk, alongside others including Edita Kudlacova, Head of Radio at the EBU.
We’ll be keen to hear the “New strategies, new mechanisms for new audiences” session which includes Charles-Emmanuel Bon from Radio France; the EBU's Jean Philip De Tender, and Guy Fränkl from Germany’s Rock Antenne.
Other big names include Jonathan Wall, Director of BBC Sounds and Cilla Benkö, Director General of Sveriges Radio who will be discussing “Big tech vs. radio”; and "The Audio Summit" this year includes Vivian Mohr, President of Audio at Bauer Media, and Ben Latimer, Head of Audio from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

Meanwhile, “Radio in the car: broadcasters and car makers on the road to the future” features Tomas Granryd, who’s leading work around the presence of radio and Swedish Radio in connected cars. Tomas is also the Vice Chair of the Digital Committee at the EBU. Alongside this, Xperi and Radioplayer will both host their own sessions.
AI was one of the hottest topics at last year’s event, and features in several sessions, including “AI tools for radio stations” with radio futurologist James Cridland.
Also always popular is “30 Ideas in 45 Minutes”, described as “a turbocharged session featuring great speakers from across the conference”. This year’s spotlight includes Paul Sylvester from Absolute Radio and presenter / producer, Des Paul from The Content Works.
Plus there’s two evenings of entertainment, including Sunday night welcome drinks - a traditional Munich evening, including the Bavarian brass band “Bayerisch Extreme”; and the Monday night party at the Deutsches Museum.
