English News on DAB Digital Radio in Switzerland
02.11.2007 - Switzerland
A new channel on DAB, World Radio Switzerland, will be the first national Swiss radio service to target the ever growing community of English-speakers working or travelling in Switzerland. The new station will be launched on DAB digital radio in Western and Southern Switzerland next Monday, November 5th. World Radio Switzerland is a new national service based on the former local radio station World Radio Geneva (WRG), an English service which had originally been founded in 1996 in a joint venture of the Swiss public broadcaster SRG SSR idée suisse and the BBC. Its successor, the new World Radio Switzerland, will be on offer on the DAB multiplex of both the Italian-speaking and the French-speaking part of Switzerland and is planned to be included also on the second multiplex for German-speaking Switzerland once it is launched. SRG SSR idée suisse and BBC, whose international English news were broadcast on the original World Radio Geneva, will continue their joint effort at World Radio Switzerland, and a team of English-speaking journalists from all parts of Switzerland will complete the offer by adding a regional flair to the station and including national and economic information alongside the international news.
