100 days the DAB + in Germany - A clear commitment from the automotive industry for digital radio
(Munich, 08.11.2011) The automotive industry has given a clear commitment to new digital radio. 100 days after the introduction of new digital radio, DAB+. Expectations of digital radio have not only met but exceeded, this was the assessment of Audi, BMW, Daimler and VW.
Dr. Bertram Hock, Director of Development Broadcast Receiver, BMW said: "So now digital radio is developing, I am sure that it will soon be available as standard in vehicles throughout Germany." Dr Hock said that he would like to see DAB+ as standard today. He pointed out that all major automobile manufacturer based in Germany already offer DAB+ as an option in their vehicles. "You can see" continued Mr. Hock, "how much fun has been for the private and public broadcasters to start digital radio. Digital radio after 100 days is a good taste of what's to come in Germany".
Herbert Tillmann, Director Production and technology for the Bayerischer Rundfunk is convinced that radio and mobility compliment each other, "Terrestrial digital broadcasting offers the possibility to broadcast mass-market radio content and new digital value added services nationwide at a high quality. Bayerischer Rundfunk has, since October, as part of a pilot project, been transmitting the traffic information service TPEG on its DAB / DAB + networks. TPEG allows a visual representation of digital travel and traffic information in connection with navigation systems". Bayerischer Rundfunk is expanding it's digital radio offering, said Dr. John Grotzky, director of the Bavarian Radio "In particular, Bayerische Rundfunk has worked hard on the content for digital radio.
Experts from the automotive industry and broadcasters have today attended with Bavarian Radio - "The digital radio press conference: 100 days the DAB +. More for the car. " This event was held to hightlight the first 100 days of DAB + and discuss the possibilities of this new media in the automotive industry. The press forum was hosted Bayern Digital Radio GmbH and the national project office for digital radio.
