Q&A with Bernhard Schmid, CEO, SwissMediaCast AG
SwissMediaCast has recently joined WorldDAB as a member, why have you joined?
SwissMediaCast is an efficient, economical and long-term provider of all digital broadcasting technologies in Switzerland. It plans, builds and operates its own broadcasting networks for DAB+ digital radio in German-speaking Switzerland. Since the end of 2023, a total of 181 transmitter sites have been in operation on the six SwissMediaCast networks. Our purpose in joining WorldDAB is to offer commercial broadcasters from beyond Switzerland space on our Swiss-DAB+ network.
What market does your company support and what services do you provide?
SwissMediaCast coordinates the transmission of the various radio stations that broadcast their programmes via digital radio. We maintain the transmitters and are constantly expanding the reception areas. We pay particular attention to cities and tourist regions, which are of particular interest for our foreign clients (for incoming travel).
Can you tell us about your most recent projects?
SwissMediaCast expanded the Klosters, Davos, Arosa and Lenzerheide coverage areas for the 2023 winter season.
What do your listeners value most from you?
Our customers appreciate the reliability and high coverage area of our DAB+ broadcasting.
What advice would you give someone considering deploying DAB+?
DAB+ is a future-proof, secure and expandable technology. Radio programmes on DAB+ are available anywhere and at any time via the car radio.
