Q&A with Bruno Alberti, President, Radio Screen

Radio Screen has recently joined WorldDAB as a member, please could you explain a bit about your main reasons for joining and what you hope to get out of your membership?

WorldDAB gives us an opportunity to present our solution to radio stations in order to let them get control over their metadata on DAB+, RadioDNS and internet radio stations. With DAB+ expansion in Europe and around the world, metadata becomes more and more important. Our platform lets radio stations manage all of their visual content: logo, cover art, talk show illustrations and advertisements. We should not forget the legal aspect of metadata broadcasting. Together with our partner Music Story, we grant radio stations access to a large image catalogue with broadcasting rights according to international legislation. Images are composed into slideshows following the latest WorldDAB security guidelines.

What markets does your company support and what solutions do you provide?

Radio Screen is a metadata distribution platform for DAB+, RadioDNS Hybrid Radio and Internet radio stations. Our company is based in Paris and we work in the European market, our clients are based in France, Switzerland, Germany, Monaco, and other regions. Radio Screen allows radio broadcasters to simultaneously display slideshows to accompany their audio programmes illustrating music, talk shows and advertisements on the screens of vehicles equipped with a DAB+ or DNS Hybrid Radio receiver. Radio Screen also improves the presentation of the radio station logo in cars.

Can you tell us about your most recent projects?

Radio Screen is constantly developing. We are able to produce a specific integration based on our client's demands in a short period of time. Recently we have developed an API with Radioplayer France. Moreover, we are taking part in DAB+ experimentation in France with Arcom, TDF and Continental (automotive receiver manufacturer) in order to make DAB+ metadata streams more accurate and precise.

What do your customers value most from your solutions?

Our clients appreciate our platform because it’s intuitive and very easy to manage. They can instantly change their logo or frequency information which is automatically sent to RadioDNS. They can manage radio programmes and commercials in the same way. Our platform is compatible with any radio programming system (RCS Selector, Zenon, etc) and it can instantly send a metadata stream to any broadcasting system (TDF, Towercast, Digris, etc).

What advice would you give someone considering deploying DAB?

Pay a lot of attention to metadata on DAB+, today the visual illustration is becoming as important as the sound quality. Digital audio is systematically associated with an image that makes it essential to music consumption. Thanks to DAB+ technology, broadcasters have a great opportunity to display images and extend the listener's experience.
