German consumers increasingly opting for DAB+
09.09.2019 - Germany
DAB+ receivers are setting new records in Germany, with the total number of DAB+ devices in the market now standing at 14.6 million – 2.8 million more than in 2018, which equates to a relative increase of 24 percent compared to last year.
Over 9 million households are equipped with at least one DAB+ receiver, while the proportion of people in households with access to at least one DAB+ device is expected to increase from 18.1 in 2018 to 23.9 percent in 2019.
The market penetration of DAB+ radios in cars is also rather impressive, with almost half of all new cars in Germany now rolling off the production line with DAB+ included as standard. The EU’s introduction of the EECC directive, which mandates digital radio in cars starting from 2021, will also help further increase this number, and strengthen DAB’s place in the automobile.
