How do you see the digital radio industry evolving in the coming years?

Despite the current discussion about broadcasting over 5G, there is no alternative to DAB+ from my point of view. The costs for the DAB+ technology have decreased significantly. This again makes DAB+ interesting for a large number of small-scale multiplexes - a trend that has already begun in the UK and will also become accepted in Germany. Small multiplexes, on the other hand, enable a cost-effective regionalisation, which is especially essential for commercial broadcasters, as otherwise no local advertising is possible.

I therefore continue to see significant potential for DAB+.

What DAB+ products or services are showcasing at IBC 2019?

This year we present our brand-new professional MAGIC DABMUX plus Ensemble Multiplexer. The system completes our Ensemble Multiplexer family with a powerful, hardware-based and modern platform. This allows us to optimally cover all the requirements of a DAB headend system - from a small-scale solution to a high-end system.

A special highlight is the optionally integrated emergency warning option for the multiplexer, in which all programs of an ensemble are replaced by the emergency announcement. In contrast to other methods, also older DAB receivers are compatible with this solution.

We will also show our new MAGIC AE4 with up to four integrated DAB/DAB+ audio encoders for remote studio installations.

The encoder is the ideal way for commercial broadcasters to transmit their programs, including additional information such as dynamic labels and slide shows, to a DAB Ensemble multiplexer with as little effort and best quality as possible.

You are one of several WorldDAB members exhibiting at IBC 2019 – what value do you see in exhibiting at the show?

For us, the IBC is the most important broadcast exhibition of all. Visitors from all regions of the world can only be found in Amsterdam. Therefore, the show is the perfect time for us to launch new products.

In addition to customer care, the important projects for the coming year are also discussed here.

Furthermore, the IBC is the best opportunity to catch up on the latest technical trends.
