Radio is alive and continues to grow and innovate in the face of dynamic and ever-evolving challenges. It remains free and easily accessible across platforms, thanks to its high quality and relevant content, and its ability to embrace and adapt to change.

In the new landscape that includes the likes of Google, Amazon, Sonos and Apple Music, how is radio delivering new content to the listener, and catering to what the listener wants?

The evolving audio landscape (or why broadcast radio remains the king)

There are more and more ways to listen - on-demand streaming, podcasts, digital radio services, satellite radio…the list continues to grow. Content is available everywhere and across all devices. Yet research shows that broadcast radio remains the top way to reach listeners.

Speaker: Daniel Karlsson, VP Business Development, EMEA-APAC, Triton Digital

Getting radio into smart speakers

Smart speakers are wireless speakers with voice-control built into them – and they are being embraced by millions, offering broadcasters the opportunity to bring radio back into the heart of the home, and in the car’s digital dashboard.

Speaker: Graham Dixon, Head of Radio, European Broadcasting Union

Panel discussion - How are broadcasters getting digital content to the listener across platforms?

While broadcast radio remains the core business, radio is incorporating new technology into the business model – online, via apps, and on digital via DAB+.

Speakers:
Wim Moortgat, Manager Audio Technology, VRT
Joan Warner, CEO, Commercial Radio Australia
Ina Tenz, Programme Director, and General Manager Content, Antenne Bayern

Norway was the first country to switch off FM radio in 2017 – what happened next?

How switching off FM and using only digital platforms can make radio fit for the future. In 2017 Norway was the first country to go 100 % digital – why, how and what happened next?

Speaker: Ole Jørgen Torvmark, Norsk Radio AS

Radio over 4G/5G – fact from fiction

It’s clear that mobile can provide a complementary service to broadcast radio – but to deliver a comparable service over a wide area would require a massive investment, and there is no business case for mobile operators or broadcasters to fund it.  Arqiva present the findings of a recent survey measuring the quality of radio signal over 4G compared to DAB, within selected urban environments and motorways, and across peak listening times in selected regions across the UK.

Speaker: Simon Mason - Head of Broadcast Radio Technology, Arqiva

DAB - at the heart of digital radio

Speaker: Patrick Hannon, President, WorldDAB
