In May 2021, the Department of Electronic Communications has decided to cancel the tender procedure of March 2021.
In June 2021, the Department of Electronic Communications initiated a new tender procedure, the result of which was successful and the contract for the Development of a Study on the Operation of Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB+) in Cyprus, was awarded.
The Duration of the contract execution is 12 months from the date of the commencement of the implementation of the contract.
Following this, in August 2022, the Department of Electronic Communications awarded a contract to LS telcom AG for a study to examine the technical, regulatory, licensing and commercial models which may enable the successful launch of DAB+ services across the Republic of Cyprus. The project is due to be completed in 2022 and will lead to the launch of DAB+, bringing clearer reception for the island’s many existing broadcasters as well as the scope for new services to be launched.
The Department advises the next step will be to initiate a Public Consultation process at the beginning of September 2022. The public consultation paper will be published on its website https://dec.dmrid.gov.cy/dmrid/dec/ws_dec.nsf/home_en/home_en?openform
